This one-day conference provides a forum for junior researchers to share their current research projects on law and society and receive input from faculty and other participants. The conference will delve into the intricate relationship and dynamics of law and society in crises. In many senses, these are days of emerging crises: from protracted wars; through race-based social tensions and national conflicts; to environmental degradation, among others. We often look to the law to resolve these crises, yet the law is not a panacea. Even worse, the law itself can sometimes be a catalyst for these very crises. At this juncture, we welcome discussions on the interaction between law, society, and crises; the role of law, legal institutions, and social norms in addressing and/or causing local and global crises; the influence of activism in shaping public and private responses to catastrophic events; and many other topics that align with the general theme of this conference.
