Youth Design Day on cleaning your record

Expunge Design Day poster - Legal Design Lab

On November 7th, a team of us at Stanford Law School & d.school are hosting a day in which we work with young people in the Bay Area to imagine what more user-friendly ways to clean and seal their record might be.

We’ll be starting with the open source project Expunge.io from Illinois. It’s a tool developed by youth in Chicago with help from the Knight Foundation, to make it easier to figure out if you’re eligible to expunge or seal your record, and then find services to help you do it. In our session, we’ll explore how Expunge.io might be adapted to Californian youth’s needs and legal requirements, as well as what other tools we could build to better address young people’s needs as they deal with the criminal justice system.

Are you interested in participating as a coach (on legal, design, or development skills), a supporter, who might help projects conceived during the design day can move forward, or in another capacity?

Fill out the RSVP form here.  And we will keep this page updated with more images & reports from the event.

This event is sponsored by Stanford Center on the Legal Profession (Legal Design Lab), the Stanford d.school, and Smart Chicago.
