From Killer Robots to Harmful AI: The Future of Human Rights

- This event has passed.
This panel will discuss the future of human rights in light of developments in artificial intelligence, automation and robotics. In particular, it will focus on the central issue of autonomous weapons as they relate to human rights and human dignity. Drawing on the ongoing discussions at the United Nations to potentially ban such weapons for military use, the panel will consider the use of autonomous weapons in domestic policing. It will consider the ways in which emerging technologies, such as face recognition technologies, and automated visual surveillance such as Google’s Project Maven, might provide components for future autonomous weapons, and how this will impact activism and regulation of technologies that threaten human rights. It will also discuss the potential for other automated technologies to violate and undermine human rights.
Join us for a talk with Peter Asaro (the New School / Center for Internet and Society), Rasha Abdul Rahim (Amnesty International) and Marta Kosmyna (Human Rights Watch). This event is hosted by SAILS and co-sponsored by SPICE and LST. Lunch will be provided.
