Cardozo Law School Professor Gabor Rona, a renowned expert in the fields of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, will discuss international law in the Israel/Hamas conflict, including the U.N. Charter, the Geneva Conventions, the Genocide Convention, and international criminal law. Before joining the faculty at Cardozo, he has served as International Legal Director of Human Rights First and as Legal Advisor in the Legal Division of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Gabor Rona is Professor of Practice at Cardoza School of Law with deep expertise in the fields of international human rights law and international humanitarian law. Before joining the faculty at Cardozo, he served as International Legal Director of Human Rights First, where he advised Human Rights First programs on questions of international law and coordinates international human rights litigation. Before Human Rights First, Rona was a Legal Advisor in the Legal Division of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Geneva. At the ICRC he focused on the application of international humanitarian and human rights law in the context of counter-terrorism policies and practices. He represented the ICRC in intergovernmental, nongovernmental, academic, and public forums. He also represented the ICRC in connection with the establishment of international and other criminal tribunals, including the International Criminal Court. Professor Rona’s articles on international humanitarian law and international human rights law have appeared in the Financial Times, the Fletcher Forum on World Affairs and the Chicago Journal of International Law, among other publications. Professor Rona received his B.A. from Brandeis University, his J.D. from Vermont Law School, and his LL.M from Columbia Law School. |
