The Role of Patent Laws Post-Copenhagen
In a recent paper, Dr. Estelle Derclaye explores the role of IP law, and patent law in particular, after the Copenhagen summit held in December of 2009. She suggests that “patent laws can do their bit to help reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.” But how? Join SLATA as we learn hear about Professor Derclaye’s research.
Professor Derclaye is Associate Professor & Reader in Intellectual Property Law at the University of Nottingham, School of Law, United Kingdom. She holds degrees in law from the University of Liege, The George Washington University (LLM) and London (PhD). Prior to joining the University of Nottingham in 2006, she practiced intellectual property in an international law firm in Brussels and was previously a lecturer at the Universities of Leicester and London (Queen Mary). Professor Derclaye also spent time as a scholar at the Max-Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law (Munich) in 2002 and 2004. Her main interests are in intellectual property law, at national, European and international levels, and in particular copyright and designs law.
In 2008, she was appointed as a member of the Copyright Expert Panel of the Strategic Advisory Board for Intellectual Property Policy, which advises the UK Intellectual Property Office (http://www.sabip.org.uk)
