The Marion Rice Kirkwood Moot Court Competition Finals will be held on February 6, 2020 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm. The finalists are:

Samuel Ward-Packard / Diana Li, for Petitioner
Cody Kahoe / Carrie Lebel, for Respondent

The finalists will argue before a distinguished panel of judges: Jeffrey S. Sutton of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, David Hamilton of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and Britt C. Grant ’07 of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

The problem this year is based on an actual case, State of Indiana v. Katelin Eunjoo Seo, the question of whether requiring a criminal defendant to unlock her cell phone by entering the passcode, when a valid warrant authorizes the government to search the cell phone’s contents, violates the Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination.
