Race and Redistricting: Louisiana v. Callais and the Future of the Voting Rights Act

This term, the Supreme Court hears argument in Louisiana v. Callais about whether Louisiana’s “intentional creation of a second majority-minority congressional district violates the Fourteenth or Fifteenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.” The case is a major challenge to what remains of the Voting Rights Act and implicates the Court’s interpretation of the Reconstruction Amendments.
