Join Stanford Law School Dean Jenny Martinez and ACLU Voting Rights Project Attorney Davin Rosborough for a conversation about the future of the Voting Rights Act in the wake of the Supreme Court’s stay of the lower court order in Merrill v. Milligan, which concerns a controversial Alabama congressional map that voting rights advocates have argued severely dilutes the power of Black voters in the state. The Court will hear Milligan on the merits at a later date, but this move indicates to observers that the Court is prepared to further hollow out Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.
This conversation will take place as a means of orienting students to the current state of play with the Voting Rights Act, beginning with the Court’s 2013 Shelby County decision and continuing through Brnovich to the present day.
Lunch will be provided at 12:45pm in Crocker Garden, before we move inside for the conversation at 1pm.
