Professor Michael Karayanni will discuss the dilemmas associated with accommodating religious communities by granting them autonomy over their members, and whether the right of members to opt out from the community is a workable compromise in such cases.
About the speaker:
Professor Michael Karayanni is a visiting professor at SLS from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, where he currently serves as an Associate Professor and Bruce W. Wayne Chair in International Law. Prof. Karayanni is a recent winner of the Hebrew University Rector Prize for Excellence in Teaching and Research, and also serves as a member of the Young Scholars Forum at the Israeli Academy for Science and the Humanities. His main areas of expertise include Private International Law and Inter-religious law, Civil Procedure and Multiculturalism.
