Alumna Smeeta Ramarathnam '00 will talk about her experiences at the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Smeeta Ramarathnam is chief of staff to Commissioner Luis Aguilar at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. In her current capacity, Smeeta leads the office and she also engages on complicated, unprecedented, legal and policy issues that arise in all manner of SEC actions. Smeeta also served at the SEC as counsel to former Commissioner Campos, and as a senior counsel in the Office of the General Counsel and in the Division of Investment Management. Prior to joining the SEC, Smeeta worked in the securities practice of an international law firm. Smeeta clerked for the Honorable Deborah Chasanow, Chief Judge, U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. Smeeta earned her J.D. from Stanford Law School and undergraduate degree with honors from Stanford University. She also taught as an adjunct faculty member at Stanford in Washington. Additionally, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association honored Smeeta as one of the Best Lawyers Under 40 in 2013.
