Hugh Carlson

Hugh Carlson is the Managing Director of Three Crowns.  In that capacity, he is responsible for the Firm’s global operations. Hugh also acts as counsel in international arbitration, and has advised clients under most major arbitral rules systems.

Hugh is an adjunct professor at Georgetown Law School and co-directs the International Arbitration Workshop at Harvard Law School, where he will also be a Lecturer on Law beginning in the 2019-2020 academic year.  He is recommended in Legal 500 (US) and has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers (2016-2019).  He is a member of the ICCA/IBA Joint Task Force on Data Protection in International Arbitration Proceedings and the CPR Cybersecurity Task Force.

Benjamin Jones

Ben is counsel in Three Crown’s Washington office. He has significant experience advising and representing parties in complex, high-value commercial and investment treaty arbitrations in a broad range of sectors (including energy and infrastructure, joint ventures/shareholders’ agreements, defense, financial transactions, and technology).  His recent experience includes: (a) acting for ConocoPhillips in multiple ICSID and ICC arbitrations arising in part from the expropriation of hydrocarbon assets in Venezuela; (b) acting for an oil and gas major in a dispute against a state agency regarding the relinquishment of petroleum licenses; (c) acting for an international construction company in a dispute arising from defense contracts; and (d) acting for a Korean company in a dispute arising out of a distributorship agreement. He also acts as secretary to arbitral tribunals and advises on cause-based mandates.

Kimberly Larkin

Kimberly is an associate in Three Crown’s Washington office who specializes in international arbitration and public international law.

Prior to joining Three Crowns, Kimberly worked at the U.S. Department of State in the Office of the Legal Adviser where she advised on U.S. and international legal matters before regional and international organizations. She also worked for a global pro bono law firm advising other government clients on similar matters. Before this, she worked in the New York and Hong Kong offices of a leading international arbitration firm.

Kimberly is a Stanford alumni, where she served as president of the Stanford International Law Society, submissions chair of the Stanford Journal of International Law, and coach of the Stanford Vis International Arbitration team. She was awarded the Richard S. Goldsmith prize for her writing on investment treaty arbitration.

Kimberly received a M.A. degree (applied ethics) avec grande distinction from the Université Libre de Bruxelles. She also received a B.A. degree (history, literature, and law), magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Davidson College.
