A screening of the acclaimed and award-winning film
The Advanced Degree Students Association invites the law school community to dinner and a movie!
Perfectly transitioning between a startlingly realistic animated frame and the hallucinatory thought processes of the film’s creator,Ari Folman, Waltz with Bashir is both original and powerful, managing a stylistic breakthrough as well as overwhelming the viewers with its stark beauty and resonance. The film follows Folman’s attempts to recollect his experiences in the 1980s Lebanon War. Through psychological examinations and testimonials, done in a documentary format, he slowly begins to realize the horrors he has faced, and the difficulty he will now have in shaking them. The visuals are innovative and magnificent: combining dream and reality to let the audience relieve memories with Folman.
Critics praise:
“A memoir, a history lesson, a combat picture, a piece of investigative journalism and an altogether amazing film” (A.O. Scott, New York Times)
“The best movie of 2008? The most revealing war film ever made? The greatest animated feature to come out of Israel? All these descriptions could apply to Waltz With Bashir.” (Jonathan Curiel, San Francisco Chronicle)
“A movie so unusual that it overflows any box in which you try to contain it.” (Anthony Lane , New Yorker)
“Its fluid boundary between the real and surreal lifts it into the realm of myth.” (David Edelstein, New York Magazine)
An Israeli dinner will be served.
