Prof. Coles formerly served as the Deputy National Legal Director and the Director of the LGBT Project at the American Civil Liberties Union. His prior work has touched a variety of LGBTQ+ rights topics, including marriage equality, protections for people with HIV, and the rights of LGBTQ+ service members and veterans. His litigation experience has included Supreme Court advocacy, including work on the landmark cases of Romer v. Evans and Lawrence v. Texas.
