The Stanford law and business schools have received a major alumni donation to establish a new research center. The Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy and Finance will focus on the study and development of clean energy technologies.

It is being funded with a $7 million donation from Stanford alums Thomas Steyer and Kat Taylor. Steyer is a San Francisco-based billionaire private equity fund manager.

In 2008, he and his wife gave Stanford $40 million to establish the TomKat Center for Sustainable Energy.
