Mariano-Florentino “Tino” Cuéllar, a California Supreme Court justice, will deliver Stanford’s commencement address in June, the university announced Tuesday.
Cuéllar, a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in Mexico, co-chaired President Obama’s transition team on immigration, borders and refugees in 2008 and 2009.
Cuéllar graduated from Stanford with a Ph.D. in political science 17 years ago. He also has a degree from Yale Law School and went on to join Stanford’s Law School faculty, then led Stanford’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, where he supervised 12 research centers and programs.
