The administration’s argument that it is cracking down on campus antisemitism is “largely a smokescreen for broader concerns about the ideological leaning of universities”, says Evelyn Douek, associate professor at Stanford Law School. “They are trying to reshape the speech environment on university campuses in a way that kills not only the universities themselves and the policies that they adopt, but also gives faculty and students a reason to hesitate before they speak.”
