Summary

The nation’s highest court announced on Monday it will not hear a former Beaumont ISD contract electrician’s double jeopardy claims, clearing the way for a criminal trial in Jefferson County.

The justices of the U.S. Supreme Court denied a writ of certiorari to Calvin Walker, preventing the case from moving forward into oral arguments.

Walker’s lawyers, DeGuerin and Stanford Law School’s Jeffrey Fisher, argued in the petition that the court should at least put limits on dual-sovereignty, and accused state authorities of acting as “a sham and a cover” for the federal prosecutors.
