US Rep. Conor Lamb to Join Kline & Specter in January
Summary
Lamb said he met Kline & Specter founding partner Shanin Specter at a campaign event. Specter told him there were similarities between working as a federal prosecutor and representing injured plaintiffs in trials.
Lamb will join the firm immediately following the expiration of his current term on Jan. 3, 2023, according to Specter. Specter said that Lamb will assume the honorific title of partner upon joining the firm.
“I went to a campaign event where I heard him speak, and he’s one of the most impressive people I’ve ever met,” Specter said. “And I think that opinion is shared by many.”
Specter said working as a prosecutor “involves the same skillset” as practicing as a plaintiffs’ trial lawyer on the civil side.
“When you run for office, your constituents are your jury. And the cross-over skills of being a great trial lawyer and being a great candidate and elected official are very significant. There have been many great trial lawyers who were great elected officials. I would include my father in that list,” Specter said, referencing former U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, who was Philadelphia’s district attorney before being elected to the Senate.
Specter said he expects Lamb to work across departments at the firm, and not be constrained to products liability, premises liability or medical malpractice cases.
