Research project

Abstract:
From both a legal and an economic standpoint, money can take different forms. It can exist, for instance, in the form of coins, banknotes, “scriptural money” held in commercial bank accounts, or, potentially, one of the different types of so-called “cryptocurrencies”. This research will analyze the notions of “money”, “currency”, and “legal tender” in the United States and the European Union, and explores the legal status of “digital” forms of money, i.e. of those forms of money which do not have a physical manifestation. Additionally, this research deals with the development of Central Bank Digital Currencies in the United States and the Eurozone.”
