This essay seeks to provide a literature review summary on how to best measure judicial performance and reform around the world, with a focus on civil courts in Latin America. Based on scholarly articles and books on this topic, this essay outlines the qualitative and quantitative metrics that are commonly used to measure the performance and progress of judicial systems around the world. This essay also discusses the rationale of using these metrics, and it briefly talks about the common ways scholars and researchers use to collect and analyze primary and secondary data to quantify judicial performance and reform.
