2025 Joseph Story Award Winner: Professor Jud Campbell

Stanford Law School Professor Jud Campbell, JD ’11, received the 2025 Joseph Story Award from the Federalist Society on March 8 at the organization’s 44th Annual National Student Symposium. The annual award recognizes a junior academic (10 years or less on the tenure track or 40 and under) who has “demonstrated excellence in legal scholarship, a commitment to teaching, a concern for students, and who has made a significant public impact in a manner that advances the rule of law in a free society.” As one commentator noted in a video honoring Campbell and his work: “It is very unusual for any scholar, much less a junior scholar, to fundamentally change the terms of the debate over the meaning of the Constitution, and Jud’s scholarship has done that.”

The award is named for Joseph Story, who was appointed to the Supreme Court at the age of 32 and served as the first Dane Professor of Law at Harvard.
