Brooksley Born, JD ’64 (BA ’61), Receives Robert F. Drinan Award for Distinguished Service

Brooksley Born, retired partner of Arnold & Porter LLP and a past chair of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, has been named the recipient of the Robert F. Drinan Award for Distinguished Service by the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities in recognition of her “leadership to the legal profession in promoting human rights, civil liberties and social justice.” The award is named in honor of the late Father Robert F. Drinan, a former member of Congress and chair of the ABA Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities from 1990 to 1991. According to the Arnold & Porter firm news, Born retired from the firm as a partner and the head of its derivatives practice. From 1996 to 1999 she served as chair of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. She was a founder of the ABA Women’s Caucus and was one of the first women to become a leader within the organization. She also chaired the ABA’s Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities, Standing Committee on Federal Judiciary, Consortium on Legal Services and the Public, and Council of the Fund for Justice and Education. Separately, she chairs the board of the National Women’s Law Center.
