David Sadwick, JD ’86, Appointed Chief Counsel for California Department of Toxic Substances Control

In late 2024, California Governor Gavin Newsom appointed David Sadwick chief counsel at the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC). He joined DTSC’s Office of Legal Counsel in 2021 as assistant chief counsel for enforcement, then served as DTSC’s first deputy chief counsel before being appointed chief counsel. Sadwick’s responsibilities include overseeing the Office of Legal Counsel’s operations and providing legal advice to DTSC’s Executive Leadership and Programs. Prior to joining DTSC, Sadwick spent 18 years as co-founder and managing partner of Tatro Tekosky Sadwick LLP, where he litigated a wide range of environmental cases and advised on compliance with environmental laws, allocating environmental responsibility, and reducing toxic chemical exposure from consumer products.
