Paul Brest, professor of law emeritus and former dean, was honored with a 2015 Fairness Award from the Global Fairness Initiative. This award honors exceptional leaders whose work has opened opportunity and access for poor and marginalized communities.

Brest is the director of the SLS Law and Policy Lab and was president of The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation from 2000 to 2012. He is also a lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a faculty co-director of the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society. His recent courses include Philanthropy and Civil Society, Problem Solving and Decision Making for Public Policy and Social Change, and the practicum Investments in Investor-Backed Pay for Success (Social Impact Bond) Programs.
