Flirting Lessons, the ninth published book from romance novelist Jasmine Guillory, introduces readers to Avery Jensen, almost 30, fresh off a breakup, and tired of always being so uptight and well-behaved. She wants to get a hobby, date around (especially women), flirt with everyone she sees, wear something not from the business casual section of her closet. One problem: Avery doesn’t have a lot of dating experience, with men or women, and despite being self-assured at work, she doesn’t have a lot of confidence when it comes to romance.

Four of Guillory’s books have been New York Times bestsellers. In a March 2025 Q&A with CNBC, Guillory described her journey from practicing law to full-time writing: “I wrote my first three published books while I was working full time as a lawyer. My first book deal was a two-book deal, and then my second deal was another two-book deal. And then I got an offer for another deal that was significantly more than my first two had been. And that was when I knew at least I could afford to stop working full time.”

Her 2018 book The Proposal was a Reese’s Book Club selection. She is a frequent book contributor on The Today Show.

“Guillory excels at describing Avery’s introduction to queer community and romance … Guillory delivers a well-written, satisfying sapphic romance.” —Library Journal
