Ryan Meservey has been staying in touch with his creative side since graduating from SLS two years ago. Law firm associate by day, he still found time to write and publish two children’s books: I Am a Rock is a 6”x6” board book and a “mindful celebration of being alive,” according to Meservey. “It invites adults and children alike to step back and find joy in small things. The book’s methodic pacing and peaceful imagery create a welcome respite from our hectic, online lives. I wrote this story of resilience for young and old readers alike.”

His second book, titled (Almost) Everyone Can Wear a Dress, is “a wild tale of inclusion with a humorous premise.” Meservey says he wrote the book as an answer to his 4-year-old son’s question of whether he could wear a dress. “The answer is yes! Kids, parents, grandparents, everyone can wear a dress—except maybe ostriches. My goal was to create a book that children will want to read again and again by coupling whole-hearted acceptance with ostrich-sized silliness.”

Meservey credits SLS Professor Rich Ford’s course on law and fashion with helping to spark some of his ideas.
