Jenny Martinez Appointed Stanford Provost; Serving on New ABA Task Force for American Democracy

Jenny S. Martinez, who served as Richard E. Lang Professor of Law and Dean of Stanford Law School from April 1, 2019, was named Stanford’s 14th provost. She took up the new position on October 1, 2023.
In August 2023, the American Bar Association announced the creation of the Task Force for American Democracy, co-chaired by former Federal Judge J. Michael Luttig and former Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Charles Johnson, to examine ways to ensure an enduring American democracy. Martinez was among the 31 members appointed to the task force, which will focus on depoliticizing the administration of elections, educating the public on the principles of democracy, and identifying and advancing improvements and innovations in our systems of elections.
