John Van de Kamp ’59 receives Griffin Bell Community Service Award
Former California Attorney General and Los Angeles District Attorney John Van de Kamp received the 2010 Griffin Bell Community Service Award at the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s 17th Annual Dispute Resolution Services Awards Dinner on May 5, 2010. A renowned expert in mediation and arbitration of complex legal issues, Van de Kamp was recognized for his distinguished career in public service and extensive volunteer work for nonprofit organizations. Van de Kamp is the former president of the State Bar of California and The California Historical Society, and he most recently served as president of The Planning and Conservation League. His notable achievements include the revitalization of anti-trust enforcement, his active opposition of discrimination against minorities, and the creation of the Public Rights Division under his leadership as state attorney general.
