Karlan and McConnell Honored for 
Exemplary Legal Writing

Pamela S. Karlan, Kenneth and Harle Montgomery Professor of Public Interest Law, and Michael W. McConnell, Richard and Frances Mallery Professor of Law, were selected by The Green Bag as 2011 honorees for “exemplary legal writing.” Karlan was awarded in the short articles category for “Constitutional Fidelity,” a section from her book Keeping Faith with the Constitution, co-written with Goodwin Liu and Christopher Schroeder. McConnell was awarded in the news and editorial category for “Where Credit is Due, Advancing a Free Society.” Their work will appear in The Green Bag’s 2012 Almanac and Reader.

A productive scholar and award-winning teacher, Karlan is co-director of Stanford’s Supreme Court Litigation Clinic and one of the nation’s leading experts on voting and the political process. She has written more than 60 scholarly articles and co-authored three leading casebooks on constitutional law, constitutional litigation, and the law of democracy. McConnell is director of the Stanford Constitutional Law Center, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, and of counsel to the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis. He is a leading authority on freedom of speech and religion, the relation of individual rights to government structure, originalism, and various other aspects of constitutional history and constitutional law.
