Markus Wagner ’06 to Embark on CrossContinent Bike Tour

Next year Markus Wagner ’06 will be crossing the Alps in the winter and traversing the deserts of Central Asia in the summer—all on his road bike—as part of an ambitious plan to pedal from his home town in the Black Forest of Germany to the Yellow Sea in China. Wagner—a serious biker since the age of 15—will be traveling 10,000 miles through 19 countries over 10 months. His goal is to raise money for two causes: an economic development project in a village in Tajikistan, a region Wagner is familiar with through his human rights work, and a scholarship program that would enable Eastern European and Central Asian students to spend one year with a German host family. The official departure date is Wagner’s birthday, February 20, with plans calling for him to reach the finish line in December. Classmates can track his progress through www.cyclingwithoutborders.org, where he’ll be posting regular trip updates.
