Mello Appointed to National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Committee

Michelle M. Mello (BA ’93), professor of law, was appointed to a committee exploring the clinical trials during the 2014-2015 Ebola outbreak. The committee is part of the Health and Medicine Division of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine—a private nonprofit institution that analyzes complex problems to inform public policy decisions. The committee will review the clinical trials conducted in West Africa during the Ebola outbreak and recommend best practices for trials in future emerging outbreaks.

Mello is a leading empirical health law scholar and is widely published on medical malpractice, research ethics, and health policy. She holds a joint appointment as a professor of health research and policy at Stanford’s School of Medicine.
