Merryman Honored for 
Lifetime Achievement 


John Henry Merryman, Nelson Bowman Sweitzer and Marie B. Sweitzer Professor of Law, Emeritus, received the 2011 ARCA Award 
for Lifetime Achievement in 
Defense of Art.

ARCA, the Association for Research into Crimes Against Art, is an interdisciplinary research group focused on art crime and cultural property protection. A renowned expert on art and cultural property law, Merryman is considered one of the founders of the study of art and law. His textbook Law, Ethics, and the Visual Arts, first published in 1979 with Albert E. Elsen, still stands as the leading art law text.
