New Associate Dean of Student Affairs

Stanford Law School Appoints New Associate Dean of Student Affairs

John Dalton, JD ’09, was appointed associate dean of Student Affairs. Dalton moved into this role in January following a year as the director of academic success at SLS, where he provided academic support and counseling, as well as bar advising.

“In the short time that John has been back at Stanford, he has played an indispensable role in guiding students through school and into the legal profession,” says Interim Dean Paul Brest. “The school is extremely fortunate to have him step into the position of associate dean.”

Dalton spent more than 10 years working as an attorney at the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), where he was a capital litigator and focused primarily on EJI’s racial justice and education projects.

Before working at EJI, Dalton was a corporate transactional associate at Davis Polk in the Menlo Park office. Prior to practicing law, Dalton clerked for Judge Pamela Ann Rymer, LLB ’64, of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in Pasadena, California. SL
