Beth Williams was appointed director of Stanford Law School’s Robert Crown Law Library this past summer, becoming the fourth individual to hold the position. She came to Stanford in August from Louisiana State University Law Center, where she was director of the law library and information services from 2011 to 2015.
“We are very for-tunate to have Beth join us. She has the right combination of experience and talent to continue the best traditions of our library and take advantage of the opportunities ahead,” says M. Elizabeth Magill, Richard E. Lang Professor of Law and Dean at Stanford Law School.

Williams writes about law librarianship and legal research and is an active member of the American Association of Law Libraries. Prior to her position at Louisiana State University Law Center, she worked at Columbia Law School, where she served as head of public services and taught legal research. She also held an appointment as lecturer at Columbia University, teaching graduate courses in information and digital archive management. Before she became a law librarian, Williams practiced public interest law in Maine. She still maintains an active membership in the Maine State Bar Association.
