Robert T. Maldonado, JD ’93, Named President-Elect of Hispanic National Bar Association

Robert T. Maldonado was sworn in as president-elect of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) on September 12, 2014, at the HNBA’s 39th Annual Convention in Washington, DC. He will serve as president-elect for one year, followed by his term as national president, which also is one year. The HNBA, an affiliate of the ABA, represents more than 100,000 Hispanic individuals pursuing a legal career or legal education. Maldonado has been a member of the HNBA for 15-plus years and served as New York regional president from 2012 to 2014. In 2013, he received the HNBA Regional President of the Year Award.

Maldonado is an IP litigation partner at Cooper & Dunham LLP in New York. He has worked at the firm since graduating from SLS and has been a partner there since 2000. His expertise is in IP litigation in federal court and the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. Maldonado has received other honors including the “El Award” from El Diario La Prensa and selection to the New York Metro Super Lawyers list for three consecutive years.

Additionally, he is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and sits on the board of the LGBT Law Association Foundation of Greater New York. He received an ABA presidential appointment to the Commission on Hispanic Legal Rights and Responsibilities this year.
