Ryan Spiegel, JD ’03, Appointed to Maryland House of Delegates

In June, Ryan Spiegel was nominated to the Maryland House of Delegates, the lower chamber of the State’s legislature, to complete the remaining term of a former delegate representing District 17, which includes approximately 140,000 residents in the cities of Gaithersburg and Rockville. After Maryland Governor Wes Moore confirmed his appointment, Spiegel was sworn in on July 6 and assigned to the House Appropriations Committee. His term runs through 2026. Prior to this appointment, Delegate Spiegel served as an elected member of the Gaithersburg City Council for 16 years, focusing on economic development, smart growth, environmental programs, affordable housing, and safety net services.

“I am very proud of the work we’ve done in municipal government, humbled by the faith that my supporters have placed in me, and excited to serve the people of District 17 in this next chapter of my public service journey,” Spiegel said in a press release.
