Deborah A. Sivas ’87 was named the inaugural Luke W. Cole Professor of Environmental Law. The professorship was established by John B. Kleinheinz (BA ’84) and his wife, Marsha, in honor of Luke Cole (BA ’84), a noted environmental lawyer and activist who passed away in June 2009. Sivas, a prominent environmental law scholar, also directs Stanford Law’s Environmental Law Clinic, where she has taught since 1997. “There is no better person than Deborah Sivas to live up to the high standard Luke set, and her work will contribute greatly to advancing environmental safety and training generations of lawyers capable of carrying what they learn here into the world outside the university,” says Larry Kramer, Richard E. Lang Professor of Law and Dean.
