Steve Silverman, JD ‘86, Appointed Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture
On April 1, Steve Silverman, former director of the National Appeals Division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, was appointed deputy commissioner of agriculture of Colorado by Commissioner Kate Greenberg.
Silverman’s career in public service of more than three decades has taken place mainly in the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Silverman began as a senior attorney for environmental enforcement at the U.S. Department of Justice. He then worked as a pollution control attorney and later general counsel at the USDA. In 2012, Silverman returned to the DOJ as a deputy assistant attorney general for the Environmental and Natural Resources Division, but he soon resumed work at the USDA in 2014, heading the National Appeals Division. As NAD director, Silverman led a headquarters office in Virginia and three regional offices, including one in Colorado.
As deputy commissioner of agriculture, Silverman will be heavily involved in the department’s policymaking and oversight of the department’s various divisions.
