Tiffany Cartwright, JD ’10 (BA ’07), Confirmed to Federal Bench in Washington State

Tiffany M. Cartwright, a partner at the Seattle civil rights law firm of MacDonald, Hoague & Bayless since 2018, was nominated by President Biden to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington and confirmed by the United States Senate in July 2023.

Cartwright, a Washington state native, clerked on the Alaska Supreme Court for Justice Dana Fabe and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals for Justice Betty B. Fletcher. She has focused much of her career on civil rights cases, including those involving police misconduct, gender discrimination, and sexual harassment in the workplace.

Before joining the bench, she served on the board of directors for nonprofit Legal Voice, served on the Local Rules Committee of the Western District of Washington Federal Bar Association, and wrote pro bono amicus briefs on behalf of the Washington Employment Lawyers Association and Legal Voice. While at Stanford Law School, Cartwright was a member of the Stanford Supreme Court Litigation Clinic.
