Zach Horowitz, JD ‘78, Collaborates with Los Tigres Del Norte on Netflix Documentary

Zach Horowitz has put music at the center of his career, starting in the legal department at CBS Records (now Sony) and then rising to the top of Universal Music Group, where he served as president and COO from December 1998 to April 2012 and chairman and CEO from April 2012 to August 2014. More recently, though, he has added documentary filmmaking to the mix.

In September, Netflix aired the documentary Los Tigres del Norte at Folsom Prison, which Horowitz co-wrote and co-produced. The film features an April 2018 performance at Folsom Prison by Los Tigres del Norte, the iconic, Grammy Award-winning norteño band, marking the 50th anniversary of Johnny Cash’s historic concert in the same California prison—highlighting the challenges of mass incarceration. The documentary features recordings from the band’s concert performances at Folsom, along with interviews and stories from Latino and Latina inmates at the prison.
