Biography
Umberto Nizza is an accomplished legal and economic scholar with extensive experience in academia and research. He currently holds the position of Adjunct Professor of Legal and Economic Risk Management at the University of Bologna (Italy) and is also a postdoctoral fellow in economic law at Collegio Carlo Alberto (Italy), in partnership with the University of Torino (Italy). Nizza holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Analysis of Law, Economics, and Institutions from the same university. Nizza’s research interests are diverse, spanning a wide range of topics at the intersection of law, economics, and emerging technologies. A unifying theme in his work is the application of rigorous quantitative and interdisciplinary methods to shed light on the intricate relationships between legal frameworks, economic forces, and societal outcomes. This includes the integration of AI-powered tools into legal practice, as well as the exploration of political economy, where he has investigated the complex links between political processes, lawmaking, and economic outcomes.
Importantly, Nizza’s research agenda also includes collaborative European projects in the field of agricultural economics, particularly focused on the wine industry, and justice efficiency, with a focus on Data Envelopment Analysis and legal institutions. His work has been published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, and he has several manuscripts currently under review. In addition to his academic work, Nizza has significant professional experience, including as an attorney at a law firm and a collaborator at international organizations. He has also held teaching and tutoring positions at various institutions, including the University of Turin (Italy), the University of Verona (Italy), and the Azim Premji University in India. Nizza is proficient in a range of data analysis and computer software programs and is affiliated with numerous academic associations, actively participating in various international conferences and workshops. Nizza’s research provides valuable insights into important topics at the intersection of law and economics, with the potential to inform policy and practice. He is open to discussing possible collaborations for future projects. He has been a TTLF Affiliate since 2023.
