We represented a high school student with special education needs to obtain appropriate placement and related support services. The school district initially sought expulsion and then residential treatment center placement, but we successfully negotiated an agreement with the school district to place the student in a private school close to their home and fund their education for the 2022-23 school year. We proposed our own terms and obtained a favorable agreement for the student for the duration of the school year. We also represented the student and their parent at IEP meetings throughout the process. This case gave us the chance to witness the power of proposing the terms we hope to see in an agreement and practice our negotiation skills.
