English translations of the 10th Batch of Guiding Cases are up on the CGCP’s brand new website. This batch features 8 GCs, including 5 IP and/or unfair competition cases covering issues such as Internet and software copyright law, 2 cases involving disputes over contracts for the carriage of passengers or goods, and 1 case concerning the succession rights of a child conceived through artificial insemination. Open Government Partnership Global Summit, Mexico City, Mexico.  On October 28, 2015, the CGCP presented a panel entitled Providing Access to Justice for All through Open Judiciary: Comparative Experiences from the U.S., Latin America, and China, at the 2015 Open Government Partnership (OGP) Global Summit in Mexico City. Organized by the CGCP, the panel was chosen among more than 350 applications submitted to the OGP. To read the event summary, click here.

The panel discussion ended with a 5-minute Survey (available in English, Spanish, and Chinese) taken by participants who identified the 5 factors that they considered to be most important to the development of open judiciary. The survey is now open to everyone – click here to participate. Let us know your own five factors by December 15, 2015. The survey results will be shared with OGP, policymakers, scholars, legal actors, and other interested parties.

Law, Justice and Development Week, World Bank Headquarters, Washington D.C., November 17, 2015.  Dr. Mei Gechlik, Founder and Director of the CGCP, will moderate a panel entitled The Role of ‘Precedents’/Guiding Cases in the Effective Application, Interpretation, and Implementation of the Law, which will feature judges and trial lawyers from China, Japan, Kenya, and the United States. Drawing on experiences from Chinese judges and lawyers, Dr. Gechlik will also present the latest developments in GCs and related subsequent cases.
