“The Circuit” Launches on Above The Law

I am thrilled to announce that “The Circuit,” my new monthly column on Above The Law, has launched today. The concept will, I hope, help spread the word about important upcoming legal technology events—and the participants whose ideas fuel innovation and improve access to justice. Not surprising, the first column addresses ALM’s upcoming Legaltech New York—the grand dame of  legal tech events—which will be held Feb. 2-4 at New York Hilton Midtown. Now in its 35th year, it’s a three-day extravaganza that will inspire and exhaust the best of us.

Updated to add judges information:

BTW, CodeX will be highly visible at LTNY for the second year in a row. We’ll have a pavilion for startup demos and on Thursday (Feb. 4), two tracks of two “Legal Disruption Lightning Rounds,” lead by CodeX Executive Director Dr. Roland Vogl. The announced speakers will be Jake Heller (Casetext), Stephen Kane (ArbiClaims), Dan Rubins (Legal Robot), Gabriel Sukman (ClearstoneIP) in the morning panel. The afternoon panel will include presenters Daniel and Michael Friedmann (123recht.net and more);  Matt Lhoumeau (Concord); Sergey Nazarov (SmartContract) and Gurinder “Garry” Sangha (Lit IQ).

Judges will include Ralph Baxter, former chairman and CEO of Orrick, and now an advisor for Thomson Reuters Legal, Stanford Law School Center on the Legal Profession, the Harvard Law School Center on the Legal Profession, and the Georgetown Law School Center for the Study of the Legal Profession; Joseph Borstein, global director, Pangea3 and columnist for Above The Law; and moi.

Please check out The Circuit  (and please comment!) To make the Circuit electric, vibrant and useful, ping me with your suggestions for events, large or small; and help me identify the passionate people who are involved in these projects (mbay@codex.stanford.edu).

Huge thanks to ATL’s managing editor David Lat for this opportunity and applause to ATL’s ace graphics team, including Peter Hobbs and Nicholas Scholl. And a shout-out always to Hsiaolei Miller, who brought me into the ATL fold when she invited me to speak at last fall’s first ATL Academy for Private Practice.
