MIT Media Lab: $900,000 Bitcoin Developer Fund
CodeX Fellow (and CEO of ClearAccessIP) Nicole Shanahan forwarded a note from Brian Forde, Director of Digital Currency at the MIT Media Lab, which has just gathered $900,00 for a Bitcoin Developer Fund. “Donors include companies (BitFury, Bitmain, Chain, Circle and Nasdaq) and individuals (Jim Breyer, Jim Pallotta, Jeff Tarrant, Reid Hoffman and Fred Wilson),” he notes.

“The goal of the fund is to enable diversity of work and thought on Bitcoin by providing positions and financially supporting leading developers of the Bitcoin protocol at the MIT Media Lab,” said Forde.
“In the midst of debates about block size and whether Bitcoin is dead, we feel it’s important to provide a neutral academic environment that allows developers to work on code and develop new ideas that may be controversial, but can do so with the assurance that they won’t be fired for diversity of thought.”
