I turn the mic over to our Executive Director Roland Vogl  for our next October meeting. —Monica Bay

CodeX Open House: Tuesday Oct. 20

Roland Vogl:

Hi Everyone,

Our next CodeX meeting is this Thursday (Oct. 12), from 1.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. Pacific time, in Room N102 of the Neukom building of Stanford Law School (or via Zoom link below).

Presenting will be:

CodeX Meeting: 10/12 1

Bruce Cahan, Adjunct Professor, Management Science and Engineering Department, Stanford School of Engineering. As we think about legal tech, the issue of unauthorized practice of law, and the advertising claims of guaranteed legal results, is an ongoing consideration. We will receive an update (materials here) on the status of what constitutes “unauthorized practice of law” in the legal tech arena.

Bruce will be presenting in our meeting room at SLS.

CodeX Meeting: 10/12

Paul Thompson, Instructor, Dartmouth College. His proposed research will apply chatbot technology to a reference interview process supporting legal question answering. This approach takes advantage of the long tradition in artificial intelligence and law of formally modeling legal reasoning and argumentation and will be based on logical form representations, rather than on probabilistic information retrieval principles.

Paul will be presenting remotely.

See you then!

Roland
