CodeX Meeting: January 23rd, 2020

Hi Everyone,

Our next CodeX group meeting is this Thursday (Mar 4), from 1:30p to 2:30p PT, via  Zoom – please subscribe to group meetings below for access to the video link. Our meetings continue to be held remotely.

Our guests will be:

Rolf Müller, CEO, WAL International, and founder and partner, Müller & Paparis Attorneys at Law; and Paolo Krasnic, attorney, Müller & Paparis. Our presenters will discuss WAL, a digital platform for attorneys, clients, and organizations, with services such as finding a lawyer, managing contracts, resolving disputes, and conducting transactions.

Professor Philipp Hacker, Chair, Law and Ethics of the Digital Society, European New School of Digital Studies, European University Viadrina, Frankfurt. Prof. Hacker discusses a new model which allows developers to interpolate between different fairness definitions, and explores to what extent developers risk liability under affirmative action doctrines if they seek to implement algorithmic fairness measures in their models.

Gabe Teninbaum, Assistant Dean and Professor, Suffolk University Law School, and Jameson Dempsey, Fellow, CodeX. Our presenters will discuss their essay, “May it Please the Bot?”, which explores the strengths and weaknesses of opportunities created by new technologies to improve transparency, accessibility, and predictability of legal outcomes.

See you then!

Roland
