Stanford Law’s Diego Zambrano Testifies Before the U.S. House of Representatives’ China Select Committee

Stanford Law School Professor Diego Zambrano, faculty director of the Neukom Center for the Rule of Law, testified before the U.S. House of Representatives’ China Select Committee on September 19, 2024. Covering topics he addressed in his article Foreign Dictators in U.S. Court, 88 U. CHI. L. REV. 157 (2022), Zambrano spoke about the influence of the Chinese government on U.S. courts. A primary point of his testimony was that foreign authoritarian governments, including China, have relatively easy access to U.S. courts and, in some instances, have abused that access to go after political dissidents or newspapers in the United States. Zambrano urged Congress to adopt “a straightforward fix” that would help defendants beat back such political harassment claims.
