Stanford Center for Racial Justice Welcomes Fall 2023 Interns

Each quarter, the Stanford Center for Racial Justice hosts part-time internships for Stanford University undergraduate juniors and seniors, graduate, and law students to support our work to address some of the most challenging problems in our country resulting from the history and persistence of racism. We are excited to announce our amazing Fall 2023 cohort, who collectively bring a stellar range of personal, academic, and professional experiences that will contribute to the advancement of racial justice!

Jade Araujo | Jade is a senior from Juneau, Alaska majoring in Political Science and minoring in Spanish. She is a member of the Stanford American Indian Organization (SAIO) and Stanford Women in Politics (SWIP). Also, she serves as Head of the Alaska Native Student Association (ANSA) and as an editor for the Stanford Undergraduate Law Review. This past summer, she interned in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs. Her academic interests include tribal law and constitutional law, and plans to attend law school in the future. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys dancing, reading classic novels, and watching movies with her family. She is excited to intern at the Stanford Center for Racial Justice this quarter with the dedicated staff and fellow interns.

Amira Dehmani | Amira (she/her) is a senior from Columbus, Ohio majoring in Political Science and pursuing a coterminal master’s degree in Sociology. Her academic interests are primarily in Civil Rights and the carceral system, and she hopes to attend law school in the future to work on sentencing reform and prison abolition. She has interned at the Library of Congress and the National Museum of African American History of Culture the last two summers. On campus, she is a Frosh resident assistant, a Reunion Homecoming Team Leader, a Political Science peer advisor, and a research assistant with the department of Sociology. She has also served as Parliamentarian of the 23rd Undergraduate Senate and co-Chair of the 24th Undergraduate Senate through the ASSU. This year, she is a student representative on the Community Board on Public Safety and the Stanford Student Enterprises’ Advisory Board. She is also a member of Stanford Women in Politics (SWIP) and the Arab Student Association (ASAS). In her free time, she loves to try out different coffee spots around campus, binge watching shows (Scandal is her obsession right now), discussing pop-culture events, and baking. She is so excited to be working at SCRJ this fall with an incredible group of interns.

Arundathi Nair | Arundathi (she/they) is a senior from Laramie, Wyoming studying Human Biology and Comparative Literature. She is a producer at the Stanford Storytelling Project where she works alongside other students to create audio stories about culture and identity for the podcast State of the Human. Aru also is a student artist/financial officer for the Prison Renaissance Project. Storytelling in all its forms (audio, video, writing) is one of their biggest passions because of its incredible power to bring people together. In her free time, Aru loves watching live music, hiking, and playing board games.

Angela Pena | Angela (she/her) is a senior from San Leandro, CA majoring in Political Science. She is a proud first-generation community college transfer student and has an associate’s degree in Political Science and Ethnic Studies with a focus on Chicano Studies. In community college, Angela served as a student assistant at her college’s low-income Latinx resource center, where she helped students of all different backgrounds navigate higher education. At Stanford, Angela is in SWIP (Stanford Women in Politics) and was the Issue Area Coordinator for Civic Engagement at the Haas Center. This past summer, Angela interned at the Santa Clara County Office of the Public Defender, where she collaborated with attorneys to organize evidence for trial. In her free time, Angela enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, and practicing mindfulness.

Caleb Robinson | Caleb (he/him) is a senior from Silver Spring, Maryland majoring in Psychology and minoring in Symbolic Systems.  On campus, he played 3 seasons on the varsity football team and currently serves as an undergraduate RA. He was also a mentor for the Ernest Houston Johnson Scholars Program and continues to work as a research assistant for the Stanford SPARQ lab. His academic interests center around racial psychology and he is working on an honors thesis exploring the socially dominant inclinations of police officers.  Caleb hopes to attend grad school in the future and enjoys listening to music, going on walks, and playing sports in his free time. He had the opportunity to work with the Center for Racial Justice as a practicum student last winter and is excited to be returning as an intern this fall.
