Education Defense Pro Bono Project

Description:

The goal of the Education Defense Pro Bono Project is to to ensure that San Mateo youth entering the juvenile justice system have their educational needs identified and met, and the project aims to improve both their educational outcomes and the outcomes of their juvenile cases.

Commitment Required of Members:

Law students will work on teams to review the student’s record and then meet with the supervising attorney, Abigail Trillin of SLS’s Youth & Education Law Project, to prepare for their client consultation. After their consultation they will discuss the case at a project team meeting and then get back to the client. We ask that each law student commit to working on one case per quarter (between 10 and 20 hours of work to complete the records review, consultation, and follow up).
